Using Linux Mint As My Daily Driver: Two Years On. And Also A Small Update On Life Now That I’ve Graduated.
So, uh, remember when I planned to update my blog more often? I’m not sure if I explicitly said so in any of my blog posts last year, but I must’ve made a passing mention of this plan somewhere?
Well, the last time I made a post like this, I was going into my third year as a uni student, changing courses in the process, from a 4-year course with an industrial placement to a 3-year course without one, and I’d been hoping and working hard for a First Class overall in my degree.
Now? I’ve graduated. With a First Class in my degree. I got what I wanted. It was hard, painful work, but it was still worth it. And my family and friends are all proud of me as well.
I also mentioned, in my previous blog post, something about changing the opening paragraph of my CV denoting my prior search for an industrial placement… which I did a while ago on my GitHub profile, but not on my website yet. I’ll get to that at some point.
I’m making this rather hastily just to say I have made a blog post on July 29th this year, so I might make at least one more in-depth post later on.
Migrating to Mint: 2 Years On
The main thing that’s different now is that I play Steam games more often. Ever since my last exam ended, I had the sudden urge to game as much as I could, and game I did. I downloaded many games in my library, some of which I’d never played until then, and then I bought more games in the Steam Summer Sale earlier this month.
With most, if not all, of the Windows-only games I’ve tried, Proton worked a charm, and I managed to play some native Linux games as well.
Another thing I did was contributing to Flathub’s GitHub repositories. I updated Godot to 4.0, then to some more versions. Then I added Godot 3 to Flathub so that people who still need it or can’t use Godot 4 can still download it from Flathub as a Flatpak. I then did some other things too.
My Life Now That I Graduated
Well. Here we are. I’m still waiting for my certificate in the post, but I’ve already had my graduation ceremony and gotten my final results. Getting a First Class with Honours was something I worked real hard for. And now I’ve got it. So… what next?
Well… I don’t know. Maybe a job? Maybe further academic work?
Whatever it is, I still need to reorganise my CV. For one thing, I’m NOT searching for a full-time industrial placement, for reasons I explained in my previous blog post. Also, uh, I’ve got a First Class. I’m not on track for one anymore. I’ve got one. So that I need to change to. Which I already did in my GitHub repository, but not here. I’ll get to that.
And that’s it!
I apologise for the rushed tone of this article. I just wanted to get something out there today while I still could. I plan to write more detailed blog posts on both my life as a Mint user and my life as a recent graduate when I get the time to. In the meantime, I still have a whole bunch of things to do, so watch this space for more new posts to come (when I get the chance, anyway)!
